What is this?
Zodiac & Soul is a personality quiz that goes deeper than a single spirit animal per sign. Every zodiac sign contains 16 distinct spirit animals, one for each combination of personality traits that exists within that sign.
Eight questions map your answers onto four personality axes, and the intersection of your sign and your type reveals your animal. Some are claimed by many people. Others surface so rarely they feel like myth.
How it works
The quiz uses a four-axis personality framework similar to MBTI, covering how you process energy, information, decisions, and structure. Each axis is measured by two questions, and your pattern of answers determines which of the 16 animals within your sign is yours.
Ties on any axis default to the personality tendency most associated with your zodiac sign, so even identical answers can produce different results for different signs.
The bestiary
Each of the 192 animals has four components: a soul portrait written for you specifically, a nature section covering real biology, a myth & lore section drawing on documented traditions and the world of the fantasy bestiary, and a compatibility note.
The animals span every part of the natural world: from mountain ungulates and deep-sea creatures to mythic equines and ocean giants. The rarest signs and personality types surface the rarest animals.

A note on the lore
The Myth & Lore sections draw on documented historical traditions, ancient folklore, and imaginative writing from the fantasy bestiary. Well-documented traditions (Greek, Aztec, Norse, Japanese, Celtic, Egyptian) are cited as such. For creatures unknown to the pre-modern world, or where a tradition is uncertain, the lore is framed as creative writing rather than historical fact.
Who writes this
I go by EBISU. I built Zodiac & Soul on my own and I write every word of it, all 192 entries, one animal at a time.
It started with a quiz that told me I was a wolf. The friend sitting next to me got the wolf too, and she is nothing like me in any respect I can identify. We had been born five weeks apart, and that was the entire basis on which we had been handed the same animal. That bothered me more than it probably should have, and this site is what came of it.
I am not an astrologer and I am not a psychologist. What I am is someone who will cheerfully lose an evening reading about wolverines, and who thinks a spirit animal is worth more when it comes with real natural history attached. Every entry here required finding out how the creature actually lives before deciding what it might say about a person. That research is the part I enjoy most.
The project is written but not closed. Entries get refined as I find better sources, and I write about how the bestiary is researched in Field Notes.
If you find an error in a natural history section, I would genuinely like to know. Corrections get made.
